And bake it we did!!
When I sent out my email for help just a few days ago, I thought, you know, maybe 3 or 4 of these people will help me out. Jason will be surprised that he is getting a couple of nice care packages. I'll do a little post on my blog when everything is packed and shipped and thank everyone who helped out. Well, as you can see, a few more than 3 people responded.
So this is my first Thank You, Baking GALS! There will be another Thank You Post this weekend, and another next week for the joiners that couldn't quite make the early deadline but still wanted to help out. I am so touched at the generosity...you really have no idea how much this means to me. So far, including kiddies helping out - we're talking over 100 people involved in Round ONE. Whoa.
And so now, here's a look at the soldier on the recieving end of the very first Operation Baking GALS project...Jason Ballard. No, his job isn't blowing bubbles, or at least that's what he leads us to believe.
Cute huh? Hopefully he will feel the need to share the goodies we are all sending, otherwise he'll never stay so thin!! (hahaha.)

From Megan at My Baking Adventures - Ginger Cookies and Coffee Snickerdoodles

From Teanna at Spork or Foon?- Vanilla Biscotti, Rice Krispie Treats & Sugar Cookies
From Jayne the Barefoot Kitchen Witch - Snickerdoodles
From Kayte at Grandma's Kitchen Table - Brownies

From Bridget at The Way the Cookie Crumbles - Vanilla Cupcakes, Sugar Cookies and Chocolate Chippers
From your Mom, Mommaw, and Aunts Donna Stafford and Janet Weiss - alot. Coffee, PayDay Bars, Chocolate Cookies, Cracker Jacks, Snickerdoodles - I can't list it all. But A LOT.
I also have to thank the following people, because they have done SO MUCH in making Operation Baking GALS the HUGE success it has become...
Dorie Greenspan, author of several FANTASTIC cookbooks, including Baking With Julia and our "bible" at TWD - Baking From My Home to Yours. Dorie put a wonderful post on her website about the GALS, and since this morning alone we have had over 500 hits. 500. Whoa.
Cat, at The Cat's Pajamas. Cat is a military wife and has taken on some of the duties of keeping the blog up and running as well as reposting on sites that we Foodies would never think of. She's put some very helpful info on the site about what to pack and how to pack it. What a great help THAT was!
The founders of both Tuesdays With Dorie and The Daring Bakers, because they took the time to get the word out about our mission on their own sites, and because of them, we are what we are.
Countless others have been reposting our link on their own sites, as well as other forums, and the word is spreading SO FAST!! Thank you all for all that you have done - this has been amazing!!
Up next - another big THANK YOU this weekend and ANOTHER one next week...so stay tuned to see what the others are sending!!

I wanted to take a moment to THANK everyone who participated in the bake off. I'm speechless and humbled at the amount of generosity you all have for my husband, who you don't even know. I know he will feel all your love as those goodies begin to arrive next week!
Thanks Again!!!
Love,
Catherine
Susan I am so proud to have been a part of this! I cant wait for the next round. You really are amazing!
I'm really excited to be a part of this. And Susan, you should be so proud for what this is accomplishing and the way that you have inspired so many of us to bake for this VERY worthy cause. I'm a little behind, but I am planning on getting my goodies out by Friday or Saturday! Thanks again for letting me be a part of this. I can't wait to do it again!
Oh haha! My mistake- I must have missed this post! I can't BELIEVE the sheer volume of cookies these soldiers received! You truly are doing an amazing thing... I wish more people in the world were like you!
